Lifesaving Society Bronze Star


Bronze Star covers Water Smart competencies and is excellent preparation for the Bronze Medallion course for youth under the age 13. Prerequisites: Canadian Swim Patrol or Junior Lifeguard Club recommended.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion & CPR-C/AED


Bronze Medallion & CPR-C/AED teaches lifesaving principles with a focus on water rescue, PR skills and theory for adult, child and infant casualties and use of an AED. This award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Age 13 or successful completion of Bronze Star. A bathing suit and 100% attendance is required.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross & Intermediate First Aid/CPR-C/AED


Bronze Cross combined with Intermediate First Aid is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training in lifesaving first aid (including the use of an AED) and aquatic rescue skills within aquatic facilities. Award is current for 2 years. A bathing suit and 100% attendance is required. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Bronze Medallion (need not be current).

Lifesaving Society Intermediate First Aid/CPR-C/AED


Intermediate First Aid provides comprehensive training in first aid (such as medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, burns and other medical emergencies), CPR and the use of an AED. Successful completion in this course will result in an Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C certification valid for three years. Award is current for 3 years. This course requires 100% attendance. Prerequisites: Age 13

Instructor Skills & Strokes Evaluation


Skills & Strokes is a 3 hour evaluation of a candidates in-water abilities and is a prerequisite for City of Edmonton Swim and Lifesaving Instructor course. Certification will be valid for 1 year from date of course. Prerequisites: Age 14, and hold one of the following awards: Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society Swim for Life, Lifesaving, SwimAbilities Instructor Course


The Swim and Lifesaving Instructor course is a pre-employment course that prepares the candidate to be responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Swim for Life, SwimAbillities, Canadian Swim Patrol and Bronze Medals Program. The certifications are current for 2 years. This course requires 100% attendance. Prerequisites: Age 15 and hold one of the following certifications: Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard. Must also provide proof of successful completion of the City of Edmonton’s Skills and Strokes evaluation. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Course


This 40 hour pre-employment course trains lifeguards in safety supervision and rescue in a pool environment. Award is current for 2 years. This course requires 100% attendance. Prerequisites: Age 16. Bronze Cross (need not be current), current Government of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor


This 16 hour course prepares First Aid Instructors to apply Level 1 Competencies and strategies for teaching and evaluating first aid cadidates participating in various courses. Award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Current Government of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C, and Lifesaving Instructor (not required to be current).

Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Recertification


This 4 hour recertification evaluates all Bronze Cross skills, as well as provides any updated information. Award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Prior successful completion of the Bronze Cross Course. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society Intermediate First Aid/CPR-C/AED Recertification


This 8 hour recertification is an evaluation of all Intermediate First Aid skills, legislation changes and current first aid guidelines. Award is current or 3 years. Prerequisites: Current Governement of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C award.

Lifesaving Society Swim For Life & Lifesaving Instructor Recertification


This 4 hour recertification evaluates Instructor level 1 leadership competencies and provides instructors with updates from the Lifesaving Society. Award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Prior successful completion of the Swim For Life & Lifesaving Instructor course. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Recertification


This 4 hour recertification is an evaluation of National Lifeguard - Pool skills, and provides updates from the Lifesaving Society. Award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Prior successful completion of the NL course and a current Government of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C award. A bathing suit is required.

Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor Recertification


This 8 hour recertification evaluates First Aid Instructor Level 1 Competencies (FAI)/Instructor Level 3 competencies (FAIT). Award is current for 2 years. Prerequisites: Mandatory updates completed (as required) and current First Aid Instructor award and Government of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C. Must have taught a minimum of 4 courses/recertifications in the previous 2 year currency period.
